PrologueA Chapter by WolfwindValerie Andrews had never much liked high school. She never shined academically barely graduating with a 2.0 gpa. She had always thought herself as simple and common, a nerd and half rate band geek. After high school she had been forced by her low income parents to attend a local community college. Valerie had hated the social pressures, but it did allow her to cross paths and meet John Smith. Smith was a drifter, a man of few words yet exceptional insight. She would find out later that he was a spook, a shadowy ghost with a gun and owned by the CIA. John Smith was an assassin and was looking for a student. Valerie Andrews dropped her classes and never looked back. Shasta Edwards had been the high school cheerleading captain, an honor role student with straight A’s and the most popular girl in school. She drove a BMW to school, a gift from her wealthy parents. She’d graduated top of the class with a full scholarship to an Ivy League college back East. Her luck ran out after she jumped into the sack with the Dean and some dirty photo’s popped up on the internet. It was a mess, instantly she had become a main story on NBC nightly news. The scandal was too much for Shasta to deal with. She left college, got drunk, got suicidal and after rehab, found herself working as a waitress out on old highway 29, at Bells Diner. Her only sanity found in playing an old guitar and listening to music. Neither Andrews nor Edwards knew it, but they had one very small thing in common, A secret buried so deep in their past’s that even the dead didn’t talk about it. A secret that some people would kill to keep locked away and others would do anything to find. It was the end of the cold war, the Berlin wall had fallen and Valerie Andrews and Shasta Edwards lives were about to crash headlong into the others, two women with two different paths and the same big line to cross, the line covering up their past. © 2012 Wolfwind |
