Summer Storm

Summer Storm

A Chapter by Wolfwind

Rain and wind upon the earth with wet desire

Cloud and bird battle for supremacy of the air

Lightning dances with a pine’s crackling needles

People and windows pray for surely tight seals.

Eyes reflect as concern rumbles across the mind

Horses secure? In the old barn will they be fine?

Feral cat’s gleam as mice scurry danger unseen

A yip of coyotes. A rabbit’s bones picked clean.

Rain ceases, the clouds becoming quiet and light

Only drips remain of a night that had known fear

The sun rises, it’s rays shining the new day bright

Work takes shape in the mud, foot prints appear.

Another summer storm has come and gone

They never tarry, they don’t stay very long

Yet when they choose to howl loud and blow

Everything finds shelter, even the black crow.
