Curiosity and Magic aid Mary the witch, to find out where the Mushroom had come from.

Blink

Blink...Blink....Seeing a Mushroom

Hmmm?” The little witch girl with purple hair put a finger to her chin.

How did you get here?” The young witch, who’s name was Mary looked across the large grass field. Her eyes turning in all directions.

The mushroom fields are miles from here. And the fairy rings are all sleeping.” She gazed down at the small bird pecked mushroom that sat quietly on the green grass.

I simply must know!” Mary pulled a wand from her belt. Spinning the tip around her twice, blue sparkling light swirled at the wands tip. Slowly, she brought the glowing wand down to touch the little lonely mushroom.

POOF!

Blinking the scrying smoke from her eyes, Mary found herself standing on cobblestones. An open aired market selling vegetables was nestled between two stone buildings.

Why this is the village on the Northern shore! How did that little mushroom get all the way to the Southern prairies?”

Motion on the street made Mary look down. A small field mouse was scurrying over the stone towards the market.

Oh! Maybe you brought it there?”

The young witch watched as the small mouse climbed up a wooden post and snatched the Mushroom. Mary could see it was indeed that same one.

The mouse dropped it to the ground, then climbed down and began rolling it back across the street.

A hawks cry above turned Mary’s eyes into the sky.

Oh no!” She cried. “Run mouse run!”

The mouse looked up just as the hawks talons grabbed both the mouse and the Mushroom it was clutching.

SQUEAK!

Knowing that this had already happened, Mary could only continue to watch.

The hawk flapped it’s powerful wings. It began climbing up past the windows of the taller stone buildings.

WOOF! A dog barked from one of the buildings.

Mary gasped as...

MEOWOWOWOW! A cat came leaping out from one of the windows and landed square on the back of the hawk!

The hawk cried out in shock and plummeted towards the ground.

SQUEAK! The mouse lost grip of the Mushroom and it fell.

Mary moved aside as a horseman with billowing cloak galloped by.

Her eyes widened as she saw the Mushroom fall right into one of the saddlebags! The hawk came down too. Right into the face of the rider!

AYIEEE!” The man cried tumbling off the horse.

MEOWOWOW! Cried the cat who jumped away and landed on his feet and ran off into an alley.

Oh Goodness!” Mary exclaimed. “The horse still has the Mushroom!” She waved her wand again.

POOF!

Now drifting along side the galloping horse the young witch watched as a giant troll stepped out from the woods!

NAYHAYHAYHAY! The horse screamed as it was plucked off the road, saddle ripped off and promptly gulped down by the troll, who burped.

URP!”

Mary looked down at the saddle and saw that the Mushroom had rolled out of the side bag and was being grabbed by a raccoon, who quickly ran into the woods.

Hey! Wait for me!” Mary cried, even though her voice wouldn’t be heard by anyone. Racing after the raccoon she watched it jump down into a hole in the ground.

POOF! The young witch was now the size of a small rabbit.

You’re not going to get away from me! I have to know how the Mushroom got to that field!”

Without any hesitation, Mary ran after the raccoon, down into the dark hole. The tip of her wand began to glow so she could see. The racoon’s behind was bounding along just ahead of the young girl.

Mary came to a halt as a porcupine jumped out from another hole and blocked the raccoons path! The raccoon hissed in fright and dropped the Mushroom! The girl watched as it rolled three times and vanished down a smaller hole!

Oh no, here I go again!”

POOF! Now as small as little mouse, Mary ran past the raccoon and jumped down the small hole.

WHOHAOHA!” She cried, finding herself falling straight down!

SPLASH!

Mary came to a stop hovering over the Mushroom that was now floating down and underground stream. “Okay Mushroom. You float. I’ll follow.”

Soon the young witch saw the stream move faster and the Mushroom vanished into the swift moving water.

Oh no!”

POOF! Mary turned herself into a fish and watched as the current pushed and buffeted the Mushroom along the top of the underwater passage. Faster and faster the water flowed. Then in burst of light and frothing foam the stream erupted from the side of a cliff.

POOF! Mary, now a small sparrow watched from where she flapped her wings, that the Mushroom was caught by the large leaf of a tree. For a brief moment it rolled around in the leaf. A gust of wind came and pushed it off.

Mary spiraled down following the Mushroom fall.

Where are you going?” She asked to the Mushroom.

The Mushroom came to rest on the dark and damp forest floor.

POOF!

Now back to her original size, Mary looked around. Big tree trunks and tangles of thick green vines were everywhere.

Spooky!” She whispered. Seeing as the Mushroom was content to just sit on the ground for now, she joined it.

I guess I’ll just have to wait.”

The young witch didn’t have to wait long. A monkey came howling from the branches and swiped up the Mushroom.

Mary’s eyes went wide as the Monkey had the Mushroom in front of his mouth and was about to eat it!

No! You can’t!” Mary shouted. She then gasped as did the Monkey who’s body got surrounded by the tail of giant snake! The Monkey dropped the Mushroom. It fell into the hands of a white lemur who with several others ran through the underbrush!

No! Wait!” Mary squealed!

POOF! Now a black panther, Mary leaped and bounded after the fleeing lemurs who had the Mushroom. She dove under large branches, though curls of vines and stopped in the shadows as the lemurs scurried out into a small clearing.

What are they going to do with the Mushroom?”

OH MY!” Mary exclaimed as the largest deer she had ever seen came charging out of the forest and charged the lemurs with it’s antlers down. The lemurs scattered in terror. The Mushroom was tossed into the air. As it came down it was wedged between two of the deers antler tips.

The big deer whipped it’s head back and forth but couldn’t get the Mushroom to come off! Infuriated it bounded away through the forest.

Mary bounded after, still in the form of a panther, keeping her eye on the lonely Mushroom.

CRACK!

The young witch slid to a stop as another buck came out of the shadows and head butted the first.

Mary watched as the Mushroom went sailing into the air and hit a passing Pelican.

SQUAWK! The large bird opened it’s mouth in surprise and accidentally gulped down the Mushroom!

Wait! You don’t like Mushrooms!” Mary shouted after the Pelican who was flying off through the trees.

POOF!

Mary was getting tired of changing her form so much, but she flew after the Pelican. This time in the form of a Eagle. She flapped her wings and soared after the large bird who had the Mushroom. It seemed like hours they flew.

The young witched glanced down and exclaimed. “Hey! It’s the prairies!” Looking back towards the Pelican, “But how does the Mushroom get down?”

No sooner had Mary asked her question, than a small marble pelted the Pelican.

SQUAWK!

Mary watched the Mushroom bounce out of the Pelican’s big bill and fall towards the green grass below.

At last!” The young witch dove towards the ground and landed.

POOF! Human again, she watched the small Mushroom bounce upon the grass a few times then come to a stop, right where it was supposed to be.

Closing her eyes, the young witch waved her wand and brought herself back to the proper time.

Glancing down at the Mushroom she smiled. “Boy, you sure had an adventure didn’t you.” Looking up, Mary had to wonder. “So who shot the marble at the Pelican?” She realized it was the only thing she didn’t know.

After a moment, Mary shrugged. “Guess some things are meant to be mysteries.” Putting her wand away she waved goodbye to the little Mushroom and skipped off, humming.
