The Ex

The Ex

A Poem by Màiri Andrus
"

Inspired by my life

"

Have you ever felt like your heart was ripped out?
Not just ripped out but stomped on with a shout.
He tells you he loves you he even married you!
And now he’s with you and other women too.
You want to work things out you love him so much,
He says he wants to try too yet you have a hunch.
He’s not trying; he’s just playing along as guys do,
He wants his cake and ice cream too.
You say fine, I’m done, I want out,
He says great, fine, move on out.
You leave and move on to start a new life,
You turn around and he’s there begging you to remain his wife.
You smile and then you laugh shaking your head,
Reminding him that he threw away what you all had.
Now there’s a new love, you hope will be true,
For you care much more about this man in blue.
