Tattoos

A Poem by Màiri Andrus
"

Was tired of the discrimination one day and this just came to me.

"

I have tattoos. I have many tattoos.

You think that makes me trash,

I think it makes you narrow-minded.

Tattoos are art, expressions of love, sadness, joy, and even loss.

I don’t judge you for the three-piece-suit,

Why should you judge me for my individuality?

I’m a mother, father, daughter, son, wife, husband,

I can even be the officer who saved your life.

A judge, firefighter, teacher, I could be anyone.

So who are you to judge me?

I have tattoos. I have many tattoos.

They do not make me less human, just, more my own person.

I am happy with who I am,

Are you not happy with who you are?

I make my tattoos; they don’t make me.

I am a unique individual; try to get to know me.

Please don’t judge me by my cover.
