My Love, My Mate

My Love, My Mate

The wind sighs across the meadow searching it would seem,

Just as I search for you with eyes alight with joy.

I finally see you returning from a hunt my victorious provider,

You prance up paws tapping, a haunch of deer in your jaws.

So proud, so regal, so loving, that is you my love,

I whine a happy greeting and wash your face with my tongue.

We won’t go hungry this day thanks to you,

Turning we watch as our little ones tumble from the den.

Joy swells our hearts as the sun sinks in the sky,

We have lived another day and are still together.

We’ve known heartache and joy for many seasons,

But together we can see it all through.

You are my love, my mate, and my life.
