Snowfall at MidnightA Poem by Wolf's InkA poem from my college days
The geese flock overhead
While I, myself, travel off to bed Burnt out from finals and make-up work Like the lamp that ran entirely on midnight And made the night feel like eternity The snowfall floats as if frozen in time Chills breaching the safety of the covers to freeze my core 12:00 was all the clock would blink Before I reached out, to move its blue screen toward the floor Outside, I watch the small flakes linger How much snow is like the passing of time Taking forever to fall from the sky Lingering around us for a mere moment Only to melt away into the past Only to come back as fluid memories later on Except for tonight, when the cold has frozen the hour glass Or... maybe I'm so tired I've lost my sense of time? Touch the bedside window, the ice melts and time slowly moves again Spring will eventually come and time will once again flow freely But for tonight, let time stop so my mind can rest I often worry about time in winter As if its a frozen bubble, floating down the stream But then I recall that life, even if slow, will go onward So once more, I lie down and count the flakes outside And as I drift away, I swear I hear the clock, slowly ticking away. © 2011 Wolf's Ink |
