Take A Drink

Take A Drink

A Poem by Wolfe Greytome
"

A brief look at alcohol abuse.

"

Control is lost, you think,
You fear to take a drink.

Elephants that are pink,
They dance around your head,
You fear to take a drink.

You slowly start to sink,
Into muddled thoughts,
You fear to take a drink.

Your clothes all really stink,
Soaked in sweat and bile,
You fear to take a drink.

Your wallet seems to shrink,
Emptied every night,
You fear to take a drink.

Standing at death’s brink,
You fear another drink.

This a sad, but wonderfully written poem. How many mornings does an acoholic wake up and say "today I will not drink" only to end up giving in at the end of the day? To celebrate or to drown there sorrows no matter the excuse they give themselves. Your poem is an awesome depiction of step one.

I love that the end of every stanza is "you fear to take a drink", except the last one, which is "you fear another drink". I really like how you made it flow. Everything you said is true and it really opens readers eyes.

alcoholism is a horrible diease
And being able to admit you have the problem is the first step
No one can help you unless you help yourself first
I like what you have penned here.
