I Love You With Every Breathe

I Love You With Every Breathe

A Poem by Starr
"

One Day changed the fate of 2 children and yet, those two lives never left those 2 children. They were always there...

"
It was only Autumn
Nothing more than me and my husband
He was holding a branch of cherry blossoms
I was laughing with my feet in the cold stream
He smiled until a piercing noise shot through the mountains
All I knew was him falling forwards
All I knew was me leaving
Baby please wake up
I held my hand on his chest
I could paint a canvas
He held my hand and spoke so gentle
"Listen to me darling
Hold on to what you have
I love you with every breath"
He pulled me to him and kissed me
"I love you with every breath"
He placed my hand on his
Never give up
Those words rung in my ears
It was so bright
And the words were all blurred
The voices telling me my husband wasn't responsive
It hit me like freight train
They pulled me up and was dragging me to the room
-Please mam, it may be your last chance-
I forced a smile and raced over to the bed side and grabbed his hand
I sung him a sweet melody
*You never smiled*
*Until  that mile*
*You held on for me*
*Don't ever flee*
*I need you here*
*With every tear*
I broke down and kissed his cheek
The monitor beeped
I cried and the nurses pulled me out
So many hours passed
Finally, someone appeared
"I am so sorry to bring you this news
Your husband
We couldn't get a heartbeat"
That was the end of me
I broke down and for hours
I didn't move
Soon though
I gathered myself and walked through those gloomy doors
I heard that faint whisper
"I love you with every breath"
I knew it was him
I smiled and headed home
I had a daughter and son to take care of
I couldn't bear the thought of telling them
That their Pa isn't coming home
They never thought
Neither did I
Before I left my car
I screamed for him
I wanted him back
I just smiled and walked inside
Gosh so many years have passed
Everyday I see his face
I hear those words
"I love you with every breath"
I missed him so much
The twins don't dare mention the thought of Pa
They miss him so much
They were so young
I pulled out the letter I had gotten
On it was in cursive, From John
It can't be
That's my husbands name
I pulled the letter out
*Listen to me darling
Hold on to what you have
I love you with every breath"
He said that to me everyday
In my dreams
In the house
He wasn't gone
I smiled
"I love you with every breath John"
A sense of someone touching me took my breath away
John
"I love you with every breath"
Ma was so true to Pa
Never once complained
Everyday she got letters
All from Pa
But he was gone
And now Ma was too
Me and my brother stayed together
We get letters from Ma and Pa
They never left us
They still are here
They still love us
They never gave up
Why did they both get in a wreck?
Why did that man hit Ma and Pa?
We missed them so much
We love you with every breath....

Very powerful. I could feel your emotions and your word choice was phenomenal.

Thank you so much!
Impressive, thought-provoking, and so sad! There's a lot of emotion in those words. Great job.
