Unrequited

Unrequited

A Poem by Bailey Ann

It's been a long time

Since I had felt this numb.

I thought it had passed,

With the last of 'em.

I thought you were different,

A knight in the flesh.

I should've known better

Then to prod and press.

Love comes to those who wait,

Not to the impatient.

I just can't bear it,

You mad at me.

For, honestly,

Something this silly.

I didn't ask, you didn't ask,

I think we're both to blame.

Yet you sit and brood,

making me feel ashamed.

You never know what to expect,

When love is an imaginary figment.

Just say it aloud,

You know you can.

Say that you hate me,

Again and again.

Make me forget,

A memory so true.

Make me forget,

That I loved you.

Burn the image from your mind,

A charred page the only remnant.

If I could just keep in check,

This love that I feel.

Things would be much easier,

If you weren't my ideal.

Purge me of love I beg you.

Hang me out to dry.

For if you don't my heart will explode,

And I will surely die.
