The Sacrifice

The Sacrifice

A Story by Bailey Ann

Once upon a time there lived a boy. The boy was loved deeply by a girl who lived far away. One day the girl got online to find the boy missing. At first she didn't think anything of it and decided he might be busy. But after a week she began to fear for him. An ice storm had gone through his state and maybe he was without power or heat, maybe he was hurt.

A few weeks later the girl is heartbroken to discover that her worst fear had come true. The boy had died. So heartbroken was the girl she trekked to his final resting place. The girl wept over his grave. She had never even gotten to see the boy's face.

As night fell around her, the girl looked up to the sky no longer able to cry anymore. "Please God..." she whispered to the sky. "Let him live again. If you let him live, take me instead and let him stay alive. I love him too much to see him dead. Please God. Let him live."

The next morning the boy would awake on the cold ground, looking across to the form of a girl lying there beside him. For a brief moment it would seem he knew the girl. Moving towards her, he brushed her hair from her pale face. Her wide blue eyes stared up at him, a single tear frozen on her cheek. His jaw dropped as he realized that this was the girl who had loved him from so far away. Then his stomach convulsed as he realized she was dead.

Stumbling from the gravesite the boy ran to the police to alert them of the dead body he had woken up next to. The boy never knew of the sacrifice the girl made for him and he never loved her more for it. She had died to give him a new life and he never would love her. In fact, he forgot her and lived his borrowed life, blissfully unaware of the selfless act that had brought him back to earth.

You don't have to review if you don't want to, I know it kinda sucks but it felt like a good story to write.

Be careful what you wish for, yes?

I wonder if you could trick this out further, make it into a novel. Or novella. Hmm.

I look forward to reading more soon!
