How can I look, yet cannot touch?

Why do I look at all?

How can I watch, with bated breath,

As all within me falls?

 

How can I say 'I love you',

When it's obvious you love another?

How can I keep the secret to myself,

When my heart is all a-flutter?

 

How can I keep this tragedy,

From meeting a bitter end?

How can I sit here, lie, and say

'We are only friends'?

 

How can you look at her,

Yet I know you think of me?

How can you hold her close,

When that's where I wish I could be?

 

How can I keep this up,

This masquerade, this farce?

How can I pretend that I don't feel,

My ever breaking heart?

 

How can I hope for something,

That was never really mine?

How can I stop this ring of pain?

The choice is mine this time.
