The Boy at the Crossroad

The Boy at the Crossroad

A Poem by Tiny Drop

I miss you...

Mere whispers as I scream your name
Over and over again
Like a child who lost its friend.
I scream and weep
Of a broken bond
Which will never again be found.

Eyes that search the deep expanse of the wild
Are mine as they search for you
In the clear blue sky that once was our playground
As we danced around with smiles on our faces
Truly, we were graced with lifelong friendship.

Or so I thought but then you were gone
And inside my heart a hole was left
A painful bloody, made of memories, mess.

I was a wreck.
A ship without sail as I sailed the waves
With tears streaking my swollen face
For you had left me behind with no clear regret.

Even so, I was back at the same crossroad where we had first met
And yet, you were not there
You'd never be
As I could only now see.

These tears I now cry are of joy
For in my memories still lives that boy
The one who met me on the dusty crossroad
With a smile on his lips as he confidently strode.

So I wish to tell him one more time
How much I will miss him
How much I still care for him
But hear me, he never will
So alone I remain as I sadly weep.

The contrast of the memory and the reality is so stark and heart-wrenching. You do such a lovely job by offering a tantalizing, happy memory and yanking it away just as we grow accustomed, very similarly to the nature of this poem overall. A lovely read that I will most definitely remember.
