Demon

Once upon a time,

far, far away,

There was a little, little girl

who was quickly fading away.

She had a secret,

oh, yes she did.

And deep within her, it did live.

She had a demon

stuck inside,

A being that, no matter how she tried,

would not get out.

It whispered to her in the dead of night,

and the words, they gave her such a fright!

Until she began to listen.

She heard the words, oh yes, she did.

And yet, she insisted

on keeping them hid.

But then, quite late, If I do say

She recognized that it did prey

On hopes and dreams

On sensitive seams

Between fiction and reality.

She tried to scream, she tried to shout.

She tried to get the demon out.

But when It finally did leave,

Her family, they grieved.

So, I guess you'd say

that it succeeded.

For, the demon's words

She heeded.
