Intruder?

It was early in the morning,
The sun had yet to rise-
When there, out of my slumber,
I shot up in surprise.

I heard the very strangest noise.
I thought, "What could it be,
That made this strange and sudden noise which has awakened me?"
 
I grabbed a robe and slipped it on and hurried out of bed.
But wait- what was I thinking?
I should've grabbed the phone instead...

But it was too late now, I couldn't go back.
I was halfway down the stairs!
And I nearly had a heart attack as I wondered what awaited me there.

I crept down very slowly, trying not to make a sound
And held in an anxious, bated breath
As my feet touched the ground.

My mind was racing, hands were shaking.
How would I face disaster?
I forced myself to continue on
My heart now beating faster.

Round the corner, through the hall
Just one more step to go.
I braced myself for what I'd see
As my fear continued to grow.

Slowly, very slowly
I peered around the wall.
I sighed in relief as I finally saw...



There was nothing there, at all.

this happens to everyone once in a while. I love the imagery. The suspense was really nice. This poem really kept my eyes glued to the computer screen from the first word to the last!

It's a very good poem that grabs
the reader's curiosity and attention
from the beginning to the end.

And the twist at the end,
that is what is called SUSPENCE.
That's usually when a story takes you along
and you're not sure what's at the end.
When used wisely,
suspence makes a good effect.

And your poem has a perfect
beginning, middle and end,
with suspence throughout.

This poem really made me laugh because that is exactly what I do when I am in the house alone and I hear a noise lol I just think something awful is going to happen and it turns out to be nothing. Really good piece of writing!
