Home At LastA Poem by James R. LawrenceHOME AT LAST
For Mother, Joyce Lawrence (written for her funeral, April 23, 2003) By James Lawrence She was so young; it seems she went too fast But it’s a comfort to know she’s home at last, Where her mother and family are near, The Joy she now feels is perfectly clear, At one side is God, who gives an embrace, Wipes away her tears, puts a smile on her face, And the doors to paradise, he opens wide, He takes her soft hand and leads her inside, Where she sees friendly faces that she once knew, She’s warmly met with hugs and kisses too, Her laughter is heard in Heaven throughout With joy she now feels, she lets out a shout, “I’m home at last!” It echoes far and wide, She finds needles, quilts, and dolls at her side, Her knees do not ache, her body is free, Her cancer is gone, with her eyes she can see, No Diabetes, her pain, there is none, She chases butterflies for now she can run, She flies high in balloons, travels anywhere, But when we think of her, she will be there; She comforts us still, she helps us along, She raises our spirits and sings us a song, And when we too pass into God’s embrace, She’ll greet us warmly with a smile on her face; She was so young; it seems she went too fast, But it’s a comfort to know she’s home at last.
