Numb

Small pieces lay on the ground

Piece of my heart at my feet

Lies echo through my mind

I stare at the pieces

Watching you turn your back

You fade away like an illusion

I stare blankly

Mouth open in awe

Should have known

It's too good

To be true

Fairy tale endings

They don't exist

At least not for me

This time though

I'm not putting it back together

The tiny pieces lay where you left them

It can only break 

So many times

It's so fragile

I can't risk 

Feeling the same pain

Over and over

Numb is how I wish to stay

It's what is safe

In the end

I'm mad at me

problem is...those pieces somehow re form and creep right on back in.....Nice write though, an interesting take on the broken heart

Hi Amanda,

I have going through some random writes. Found yours! The lines which really stuck the cord for me is the ending ones I'm mad at me'. You have translated your thoughts with sheer simplicity. While at times, i search some some very complicated imagery in poems, quite interestinglt, its the simplicity of few ones, which lingers longer. Good write.
