You are my sunshine, my only sunshine
You make me happy when skies are grey
You never know, dear, how much I love you
Please don't take my sunshine away

"Why do you sing a children song?" I always asked.

You cocked your head to one side in confusion. You always hummed it or sang it quietly when we were together.

"What's wrong with singing a children song?" you asked back.
"Nothing, really. Just that I always wondered why you only sing this one?"
"I like this one,"

I'll always love you and make you happy
If you will only say the same
But if you leave me to love another,
You'll regret it all one day

"Geez, is that part of the song?" I asked.
"Hmm, yeah, why?"
"I thought it was cheerful song," I shivered slightly at the words.
"Well, the song is pretty cheerful but has a deeper meaning to it," you smiled grimly, watching the sunset.
"Oh, what is it?"
"You will know,"

I blinked owlishly at your answer. I was about to ask you when there was a loud beeping sound. I fished my phone out of my pocket.

"I'm sorry. They're calling," I apologized.
"No, its fine. Its late anyway," you smiled, eyes shinning brightly.

I swore I saw a hint of sadness in them but I brushed them off. Little did I know that was spending less and less time with you.

The other night, dear, as I lay sleeping
I dreamt I held you in my arms
When I awoke, dear, I was mistaken
So I hung my head, and I cried

I opened my eyes, seeing you in my arms. I smiled reaching out to hug you closer to me. As soon as I touched your skin, you dissipate. I blinked my eyes once more and then it hit me. You were long gone. I felt my pillow drenched with tears as they flowed down my cheeks. I began to sing quietly to myself in this cold lonely bed in my broken voice:

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine
You make me happy when skies are grey
You never know, dear, how much I love you
Please don't take my sunshine away
