All In A Nights Sleep

All In A Nights Sleep

A Poem by Windy
"

Missing him, the sad thing is it's a true story!

"

                                      All In A Nights Sleep

I laid here and dreamt of you, imagined you by my side

your chest my pillow, your arms and legs my blankets,

your heartbeat my lullaby.

Two hearts beating as one, in just the right time.

Though we are far apart, it was as if we were side by side.

The light smattering of your chest hair tickled my nose,

when I reached up to rub it, you snuggled in closer.

I awoke in the night, so sure you'd be here with me,

laying by my side.  I reached up needing to touch you and

found my head on the dog, sound asleep on your pillow.

Now that was quite a surprise!

I fixed the blanket, curled up back beside the dog

and laid my head on her chest.

Her hair tickled my nose but what the heck...

Ahh..the end gave me giggle..but I'm still really sad to hear the situation you're in! It really sucks when someone you love is away(especially when you have dreams about them and you think they're somewhere close..but then you wake up and reality sinks in :( )
I hope the one you love returns soon!
Oh, and of course, great poem! :)

I like the juxtaposition of images in this...the way that the reader is longing to be next to her beloved, and the tragedy in awaking without him there...but then the dog adds a nice fun twist at the end. Nicely written!

What a delightful write for the subject at hand Windi. It IS very lonely when your bed partner isn't beside you...but I assume he'll be coming back...I hope so...in the meantime, at least you have the dog...LOL.

Well done! Loneliness seems far worse at night time and you have penned this so well. Great read!

awwwww this is so cute and made me smile this morning!!!! hey missing your man is no fun - but at least the dog made sure you weren't alone hehehe

typo thingies:

2nd line : blakets should be blankets
3rd line: heart beat should be one word : heartbeat

very sweet write - love the humor you bring into it at the end!

*hugs*

Aw. This was sad but at the end it's almost humorous... "Her hair tickled my nose but what the heck..."
Great write! :)

A different turn of writing. I like it. It started of sad and longing, and the last five lines, turned it into a cute and a chuckle.
I was thinking the ending would be sad, but the dog part brought it away from that and gave it a sense of reality. As we dream, wake up and ususally find our dreams where just that. Dreams.

Great poem.

I really felt the emotion in this poem, missing him, but there is the acceptance of that is how it has to be and then, there is your sense of humor at the end. Funny how so few words can say so much! Which is what makes poetry so great! This flows well, has good rhythm! Your imagery is good, I could feel those hairs tickling my nose! Barbara
