VINNY VISITS VERA

After Vinny’s Mother’s company relocated to Austin, Vinny, his brother Victor and his parents know it was the right thing to do because his Mother was well paid as a High-Tech Reacher. His Father Ralph really didn’t mind because a lot  of the work he did, as an Insurance Fraud Investigator he could do at home. Still, Vera wished they could spend more time together in the Fort Worth suburb they grow up together in.

That did happen when, partially, during a four day extended holiday weekend, when Vinny and his Father flew up to visit us. Us meaning my folks, my Brother Rickie and myself.

The three of us sat on our large, covered front porch while the brothers where sitting at the kitchen table. After a few minutes of silence, my brother turned to Vinny.

“You miss us much not living close by?” he asked.

Of course, like the friends I made in school and you two, But living in Austin is different. It’s so laid-back and mellow. There is live music every day and new films, show here first, are shown every weekend.”

“That’s cool, Vinny, but what about new friends you make?” Vera asked.

“Made a few, we haven’t been that long.”

“Maybe some of them are girls?” Rickie  

“Not girlfriend type girls, if that’s what you mean.”

“Hell, no, silly. Too young to think about that now.”

“There is a girl in my history class I guess is a new friend. Her name is Alice and her Mom is a school teacher.”

“Not for one of your classes?” Vera wondered.

“Get real, Cousin! She teaches college,” Vinny told her, then laughed.

“Didn’t think so. But our folks, during Summer vacation, will visit you guys in Austin. Maybe we can meet Alice?” Vera suggested.

“I don’t know yet. That’s too far away to think about now.” Vinny told her.

“Dude, we’ve got computers that go-on line and so do you, so stay in contact with us,” Rickie  told him.

“I’ll do that and won’t even charge you guys for doing so,” he teased Rickie.

“And we can send you copies of every family pics, old and new we have and won’t charge you,, you nerd.” was Vera’s retort.
