IF ONLY ...

IF ONLY ...

A Poem by Willys Watson

If Only -

The realm of excuses invites

us all to take up residence,

enticing us with the crutches

it disguises as evidence.

Too old, too young, too large, too small,

too rich, too poor, too fast, too slow,

too meek, too bold, too short, too tall:

justification knows them all.

Disdaining self initiative,

security in excuses,

fortified by kindred failings,

lets justifications prevail.

Not fed, under read, can’t be said,

has gone, takes too long, might be wrong,

many walls, no calls, tears might fall:

justification knows them all.

Embracing justifications

accompanies us descending.

Curtailing justifications

gives flight to the soul ascending.

What might become if only that 'victim mentality' were not nurtured.
There comes a time when one has to shake it off and get on with it - seems to be the idea.

The argument might be: "If only the basic resources were in place - at least!"
However, there may be no argument to make. Life ain't fair, and there's nothing to suggest it ever was meant to be. Survival of the fittest, and all of that...

Yet it remains: we all our load to carry. We're all in this same blue pond.

(Gotta be careful where you choose to think out loud, Willy. Especially in todays political climate)

I like this poem.

Yea, I dig it!
I enjoyed the catchy cadence and the rhymes, and the motivational message.
