Letting Our Ghosts Rest In PeaceA Poem by Willys WatsonLETTING OUR GHOSTS REST IN PEACE Within the realm of death not every demise can be registered on purely physical planes when our mortal souls create our living ghosts. How is it so easy to create these ghosts? We push a button, trip a switch, speak false words, point our fingers, accuse others, cast our stones, enact elite laws, pull triggers, ignite flames, though the results will always remain the same. Why do we think we can deny living ghosts? We ignore life’s lessons and reject the past, stifle scruples, justify guilt, revoke doubt, shrouding righteousness in a deity’s name, though the results will always remain the same. Why is it difficult to banish these ghosts? We subdue the conscience and silence the cries, purge memories, build barriers, deflect faults, refusing to acknowledge personal blame, though the results will always remain the same. Why do we even have to create such ghosts? If we acknowledge, accept human error, compromise, make amends and right civil wrongs, open our hearts and reach out to each other the moral results shall always keep us sane. © 2016 Willys WatsonFeatured Review
