Private Reading

A Poem by Willys Watson

Private Reading

The walls are tall, strong and silent;

containing a thousand million

often read and often loved words.

She used to believe she came here,

in times treasured, to be alone.

But now, every once in a while,

she almost wants to admit that

she might just visit all of these

voiceless, forgiving dear old friends

of hers because she is lonely.
