An evening out

An evening out

A Poem by willweb

~

An evening out

Dressed for the evening
as morning comes calling
Top hat and cane in
a yesteryear glow

Button up sweater
to ward off the chilly
Wellies of course at
the first hint of snow

Cuff links of gold as the
silver were tarnished
Buttons in brass with a
crested design

A pep in my step or
some other disorder
Creases all pressed and
the hems in a line

Hailing a cab as the
lunch crowd disperses
Paying the fare with a
tip on the side

Noticing trees in a
blur past the window
Can't see the roses,
as they tend to hide

Checking my watch for
the stripes were distracting
Siezing the day but now
losing an hour

Pushing the driver to
move a bit faster
His ample foot surely
must have that power

Sudden, the stop at the
theater's grand entrance
Where waits an angel
in satin and lace

Hair golden blonde,
of a sunbeam persuasion
Dreams all come true
with the smile on her face

Off to the show,
as my arm she has taken
Soft as a lamb,
but a day before shear

Finding our seats,
though my eyes cannot wander
Beauty, they gaze
every moment she's near

Your poem is amazing, and I figured out why I enjoy so much of what you write. You could be writing of my Father, a time and man I hold dear. Somehow you make him alive in these poems. Thank you
