Catching flies

Catching flies

A Poem by willweb

~

“You catch more flies with sugar,”

oh yes, that’s what they say

If even just a little bit

those bugs will come your way

But somehow I have noticed

as this saying I explore

You’ll catch more flies with something else

that’s rotten to the core

I sprinkled just a little bit

of sweetness on my place

And noticed that a few of them

were flying round my face

But when I lifted up the lid

exposing last night’s meal

A thousand little buzzing things

approached the peas and veal

That made me think perhaps it’s wrong,

this saying that they use

These insects may like sugar

but it’s garbage that they choose

Which made me much more curious

about these things they say

So now I pose the question,

“Who would want flies anyway?”

Hello, Willweb, this is a real fun play on pun,
I love the satire. :S Great Read! ----Maynard

This is obviously more than about flies. It is about unpleasantness and greed in all its forms.

Flies are a nuisance and I agree with you, they will swarm and eat everything...I love the way you made this into a creative piece Will, so well done (who would ever think of this?) love it!

I would think a hungry spider would want all the flies it can get. I may know one of them. This took me back to when I was a kid when we moved to New York for a bit. The flies were dangerous over there. Huge and they bite. I'll go with the west coast variety ... just irritating.

At the risk of irritating you, I might mention a typo in this. You've got chose where I think you meant to have choose to maintain the rhyme.

Haha
A very lively poetic observation of those annoying crap eating bugaslopaslimearoonies

It seems to highlight the irony and absurdity of the saying.

A very lively poem and I enjoyed reading it. Coming to think of it, rotten things do attract insects and flies more than sweet things. Interesting observation. Let me share a story here. As a teenager, I once hid a piece of meat in a bag as I didn’t want to eat it and then forgot to clear the bag for 7 days. What a gross thing awaited me after I opened the bag, the stench of rotten meat, all white, as it was encrusted with a thousand maggots! I was sick and queasy for days after that.

It comes as no surprise to me my friend. After all, we all say we like to choose the healthy option, but very few of us die from being super fit and healthy.
You only have to look at the similarities between us and flies to know they like to talk about s**t too. We pretend we like high brow art, yet we choose gossip over education every time.
Give us the nutritional value of a healthy lifestyle and we'll b***h and moan about how expensive it is to eat healthy, while loading our cart with beer and chocolate coated anythings, while avoiding the salad aisle like it's got a biohazard warning attached.
We like to talk a good game, as long as that involves bitching, moaning and blaming everything but ourselves, but the only true difference between us and the flies is, that they love swarming round s**t and we just love talking so much of it! 😊
Now, I think I have made my point, or A point anyway... And my point is, I've forgotten... I'm too busy thinking of chocolate coated everything's to remembe!
Now where did I leave my swatter? 😊

I agree Will. I dislike the flies. And you are right. Flies like the rotten things. Thank you for sharing the amazing poetry.
