Swan song

Swan song

A Poem by willweb

~

Out on a lake with a feathered friend singing,

lily pad gazes abound

Looking for thoughts and the words they are bringing,

often not hearing a sound

Spending my time on the shores of creation,

tossing a stone through the air

Searching the banks for a thoughtful summation,

down, because nothing is there

Pouring my heart into poetic phrases,

reading till night comes to call

Not really seeking some untraded praises,

no, nothing like that at all

More like a welcome, a hi, how you doing,

so nice to see you again

Thanks for your time and your kindness reviewing,

let’s see what flows from your pen

Don’t take this wrong, though it sounds like complaining,

there is not much I deserve

Sometimes I speak when I should be refraining,

hoping I don’t hit a nerve

Is it too much to expect some of reading,

maybe from those I call friend

Or do I sound like a whiner who’s pleading,

losing the strength to defend

It hurts when you find you are not near the writer,

that you envisioned you were

Behind the tears it is not any brighter,

everything comes as a blur

So here I sit with these thoughts I am slinging,

knowing, I’m probably wrong

Out on a lake with a feathered friend singing,

sorrow, this swan’s lonely song,

sadly, I must sing along

The tranquility of being by a lake, the longing for thoughtful feedback from friends, and the fear of sounding like a complainer or whiner.

Thanks so much. Sorry for the late reply
A very gentle and pensive write. A wish to be read and appreciated by those we know to be friends. This is every poet’s voice, sometime, somewhere. Very deeply touching, my friend.

This poem says otherwise. It says to me you’re a beautiful poet. 🌸💕
A soft , to me, melancholic tale of loneliness , the need to converse, the need to write and be recognized for you efforts.... while floating in a pond with nature all around you.... beautiful piece Will

Of course, you're very welcome my friend...

I once watched a mute swan die in a flood and I couldn't get to it. And I swear the legend was true. I heard it sing in my mind.
This song is wispy and gossamer and deceptively light and acoustic. It stirs the heart and tells a wonderfull fairy like story.

Thanks so much Ken.
Amazing piece as usual! I love the "Pouring my heart into poetic phrases" line and the imagery of the whole poem. The last line also is such a good summary of the feelings you illicit throughout the poem.
