Un-a-peeling

~

 

I just picked a grapefruit

off an old banana tree

It sliced it up like an orange

and I couldn’t wait to see

 

A watermelon pattern

seemed to be its outer skin

My mouth it started watering,

I needed to dig in

 

It tasted like a nectarine,

a lemon and a lime

Perhaps a little tinge of plum

to occupy my time

 

A sour cherry texture

with a granny apple core

Was hoping to find cantaloupe,

so I just ate some more

 

I noticed just a hint of pear,

some grapes without a seed,

I guess it was the perfect fruit

and all I’ll ever need

 

But one thing that was missing

and it made it all unreal

I looked for a banana

but I found not one to peel

A simple poem, but I found it charming and dare I say a-peel-ing.
Sorry about the pun.
But I thought the way you invoked taste was very interesting was that odd similarity that a lot of fruit have. It made me think of the connectivity of nature and the natural relationships that exist all around us that we sometimes don't notice.
And maybe it's just my overactive imagination but I imagined a lot of the colors of the fruits as I was reading it. I think the simple language plus word association helped with that.

Either way, enjoyed it! Good job!

This is almost Dr Seuss-like, if Dr Seuss had a TV cook show and was looking for a quick and tasty lunch to tempt his viewers with.
And you did, now be a good TV chef and share with your audience please. My mouth is watering so much I think I have a leak and I've dribbled all over my new t shirt too! Oh well, I'll just change back into my penguin onesie and maybe wear a bib too! 😊

Thanks my friend. Just was feeling a little fruity when I wrote this and not even sure why. I am not a big fruit fan. Sometimes things just grab me and before you know it or I know it, I am writing about something that truly makes no sense whatsoever. It's like I just wrote "whatsoever". Why do those three words get to be their own word when many other words have to fend for themselves, all alone in a run on sentence of equally no meaning. I just sometimes wonder about it all and then...penguin onesies make everything clearer and easily understandable.
