On the edge of humankind

On the edge of humankind

A Poem by willweb

~

A long and lonely walker

on the edge of humankind

Was understood to locate

anything that he could find

A mountain or a river,

near the shore or in the sky

If It was there, he took it,

there’s no need to ask him why

A whisper in the corner

where the truth now comes to hide

They wished they’d said much louder

to someone they could confide

A promise in the making

where a falsehood would suffice

Believing some believe it

if you make the promise twice

An honest politician,

oh no, wait, that is a scam

He took your vote, he took your cash

and now he’s on the lam

A broken-hearted letter,

ripped in half and left behind

It started, “I am sorry,”

but the rest was not so kind

See, some things are for taking,

were the words that he would spout

And if no one could hear him

then this lonely man would shout

For it was of importance

that his name would always be

Associated with the things

he found out there for free

So if you see him strolling

with his eyes cast all around

It’s so he misses nothing

as the land he does abound

You never know what you will see,

the items you might find

When you are out there walking

on the edge of humankind

Love the title. It gives rise to the outsider, seeing what we rush by, too busy to see it for what it is.
Just think of all the things we could find too, if we weren't too busy rushing through life, to get to the next thing in our over full diaries of chasing our own tales for the sake of it having become a habit.
We fool ourselves into thinking we save time, but the last time I checked my balance, it had all gone and the bank told me it didn't know what I was talking about.
Maybe the long and lonely walker, on the edge of humankind, followed me and found it.
Well, I better start trying to get it back in credit before they foreclose on me... 😊

Just take your time, they will understand. : )
he is walking along the shore of humanity, in some ways he is Diogenes the Cynic and someways he is the Blue eyed son stumbling on the side of twelve misty mountains, he is Everyman, he is the hurdy-gurdy man singing songs of love. he's got feet down below his knees. he is Klaatu, he is you and me. I'm glad you found him, and were able to tell us " You never know what you will see, the items you might find
When you are out there walking on the edge of humankind." Loved it - carl

And here I sit with, "Here come old flat top," ringing in my head. Thanks so much Carl.

what no famous quote from Diogenes??? Oh, well we take what we get i suppose. -carl
he seems to want truth, honesty and someone trusthworthy along with nature -things uncorruptible, all seemingly discarded by people. all the things people shouldn't take or mess with. humanity tramples them but he is willing to go out on the fringe in a lonely search to be with them ... :)

That sounds good to me. Makes a lot of sense. Thanks so much Pete.
enjoyable read will. seems rather obvious, at least to me, the underlying message of the poem is that of seeking. seeking what? knowledge, which in and of itself, is never right or wrong, left or right, but always the building blocks on which humanity is to be understood and built. Too often we forget this in our daily quests to be proven right, closing our minds to what senses find. To me, your poem is a call to this
