A wooden rabbit

A wooden rabbit

A Poem by willweb

~

She chased a wooden rabbit

through a forest colored green

Down a path with curvy corners

of the likes she’d never seen

He was tinted like a rainbow,

reds and blues and dusty pink,

Yellows, purples and some orange,

every shade that you can think

She had seen him in the garden,

eating carrots by the pound

Shouting out, “They’re not for bunnies,”

as he darted ‘cross the ground

With a tail of painted cedar

and two ears of treated pine

Sanded smooth around the edges

with abrasive, extra fine

He was hipping, he was hopping,

he was jumping in the air

With a little rabbit smirk as if

he didn’t have a care

She was giggling, pursuing,

as her hair did find the wind

Always looking for a shortcut

or a new path to begin

While the bunny ran like lightning,

underbrush went by real fast

Hiding deep within the thicket

as the girl went racing past

Searching every nook and cranny,

while the evergreens all waved

When she grabbed a piece of celery,

in her pocket she had saved

Then she found a shaded alcove,

sat there quiet, not a peep

And she closed her eyes, just slightly

to pretend she was asleep

Well, the bunny found her resting

with the vegetable in hand

With his tummy oh so hungry

and the celery so grand

When he took a bite she grabbed him

and she hugged him very tight

And this little wooden rabbit

found it all to be alright

Now the two of them they wander,

through the forest colored green

Having so much fun together,

it is such a wondrous scene

There were only now two worries,

whether mornings, whether nights

For her, splinters were the problem,

for the hare, it was termites

I made this wooden rabbit garden decoration (pictured) and shared it with a fellow poet on this site yesterday and thought...I can write a poem about it, so I did.
I hope you like it.

Am so glad there are no speakers involved when reviewing because I just let out such loud laugh at the last word , my dog came rushing up the stairs in a panic!!! Still giggling! Need to pause, catch my breath.. .. What a wonderful poem, meter grand, great story told - visual and more. As for that picture says a heck of a lot. Love that rainbow rabbit; such a great use of wood, must have taken a while to create! Many thanks for sharing,. willweb.

WW,
I liked it very much! What a great soul you must have to capture such joy and fun in the kind of words Churchill liked best... short ones. Direct, to the point, and carrying such a message... everything beautiful has its "termites." I think of the crazed maniac who attacked "The Pieta" with a sledge, and myself at 74 and weathering away. Excellent poem sir!

Thanks so much. I am glad you liked it. I appreciate the kind words you have left.
This is so cute! Knowing that your own handiwork is the inspiration is even better. You are so intrinsically artistic on so many levels that I find it quite extraordinary to be honest. Well done.

Thank you so much Linda. What a nice thing to say
Very imaginative Will, I love the idea of a wooden rabbit who comes life and although there are some problems with stealing food he and the the young girl become great companions and they journey together
through the woods. I love the last part: only problem: splinters for her, termites for him.
Clever Will I'm going to call you from own on!!!
Best, B

Great fantasy story of a wooden rabbit coming to life and having an adventure. I like to look at pictures and write a story about it and use my imagination. Great job Will!

Oh I do like it. It is a wondeful fairy story set to peaceful thoughts. Except for the splinters.

Why can't people who start out enemies, end up with this kind of relationship...a little give never hurts anybody...
I am going to start a garden of carrots and celery.
