Make no mistake, just bake a cake

Make no mistake, just bake a cake

A Poem by willweb

She hopped and she skipped and she pipped and she plopped,

like a bumble bee dancing, she couldn’t be stopped

Along down a pathway of bramble and stone

where licorice labels in clothing were sewn

With blonde hair a’ bouncing and eyes crystal blue,

a smile that was perfect, a how do you do

Her name was the same as the last one before,

began with an A which as well starts Adore

Caterpillars singing on an August afternoon,

when dimpled dollies fell asleep while playing the bassoon

Some cake if you please, nicely sweet on the table,

the slice does not matter if chocolate is able

With fine cotton stiches the napkins were wearing

and baskets of sherbet the twins felt like sharing

While taking a seat someone said with a clatter,

“be sure to return it when all the guest scatter,

for chairs in this place are not made for deleting

or leftovers saved from the dining room eating”

Tickle, tickle, pumpernickel,

to the summer house

Please don’t sneeze upon the cheese

now begged the hungry mouse

When there in the woods came a somersault bunny

with ears like a crayon, a nose, pink and runny

“I say, could you see if the time you are keeping,

has stopped when you plopped and no crickets are cheeping”

She said with a laugh and a half hearted giggle,

“you silly, they chirp in the trees when the wiggle”

He tugged on an ear, not the left but the other

the one that was twitching, he uttered, “Oh brother,

by jove, you’re correct, have a carrot for salad,

though winners will win before singing a ballad”

She chuckled a little, a lot or not hardly

while plucking the flowers, all acting back yardly

Pick a dozen, for your cousin, all along the wall,

don’t be crazy, it’s a daisy, can’t you see them all

Watch that fellow, dressed in yellow, with the daffodil,

he will put it in a vase upon the window sill

and fill it up with water,

sprinkle it with cheer,

find himself an easy chair

and have an ice cold beer

Her eyes became heavy, her feet, patten leather,

when soon she was floating, as light as a feather

For sleep, took her hostage, all tied up and bounding,

she purred like a kitten, a soft murmur sounding

Until, quite alarming, a noise came a’ shouting,

was time to wake up, there was no use in pouting

A pee and a poo and some teeth now need brushing,

just slow down a bit, there is no need for rushing

Easy does it,

nice and slow,

take your time,

before you go,

count the minutes,

seconds too,

hours later,

something new

She opened the door and the sidewalk was smiling,

it all was a dream and it felt so beguiling

The clothes on the line waved and flapped ever happy,

their old maple tree, branching out, kind of sappy

She laughed at herself and the things she’d been finding

like rabbits and crickets and daisies, reminding

That life is a puzzle with millions of pieces,

you might need some help from your nephews and nieces

But once it returns to the way you remember,

well…I still want some cake…

I can’t wait till September!!

This was like poetry plus. Poems within a poem. If only every time we opened the door we see a sidewalk smiling. Sometimes I think you've been smokin' sumthin' before you drop into dreams. This was as fun to read as it must have been to write. Tasty, like cake.

If Ray Thomas of the Moody Blues were still alive he would love this. along with its sprightly melody.

Thanks so much Ken. That is such a nice compliment.
What a delightful write this is. It flowed so easily and I could picture a little girl with blonde curls. It took me back to a time when clothes danced on the wash line and children played jump rope with vines. Indeed, Will, life is a puzzle and even though at times all the pieces do not fit, it is pretty damned good. Lots of personification in this one and, well, I just enjoyed it. Lydi**

I want to be in a world where caterpillars sing, a mouse begs, a fellow dresses in daffodil, a daisy talks and a maple tree laughs. Thank you for the lovely dream shared, dear Willweb. This was such a treat to read and think upon.

Always such a pleasure, my friend.
What a lovely, lovely happy dancifying poem, start to finish and in the middle! Your words, although finely conceived and laid - are like a trampoline, jumping and bouncing in an un-tethered dance of joy. Love it all, seeing its musicical joy as hat child in all of us who never want to grow up! Thank you so very very much for sharing. :)

Will were you reading Lewis Carrol before bed? This felt like Alice and the mad hatter's unbirthday party. If you have grand children or young children of your own I'm sure they would love this. It brought back past memories of telling stories to my children and grand children. It put a smile on my face and contentment in my heart.

Yep, they sure can. Thanks so much Ken.
For me it's to stay away from the oven as I can't bake but life does bring about a variety to go through each and every day. Either way, home baked or store bought there's a plenty of life for the having.
