Beckoning her

Beckoning her

A Poem by willweb

~

She reached for the ribbons of her gown

not knowing why, but she held them in her hand

as she floated through the ever-changing mist,

whites and grays in a swirling pattern,

mesmerizing in blends and shifts,

blurred yet possessing a clarity she could not explain

or cared to think about right now

She looked down on herself in her bed sobbing,

clutching tightly a dampened pillow, lonely, a photo

in a silver frame on the bedside table, missing...

now very confused as a peaceful awareness wrapped about her warmly,

caressing her spirit, washing away the pain,

the sadness, the torment which she fought now to remember

as it drifted below, creating new shadows about her feet

but distant, never forgotten, she couldn’t, it was promised…

Once more the satin ribbons were pulled gently, guided,

as if a feather laced kite on a silver string embracing blue skies,

dancing about in the slow rhythm, spun in clouded dreams,

breathless she soars higher it seems, towards the sun

or perhaps a light of a different source, it felt soft, cool,

beckoning her and she yearned for it…

for some reason it felt right

Stars swept past her in wiry glistening designs

like a sparkler at a summer cookout waved through the air

in abstract cherry-lime glowings and apple pie tickles and she smiled,

for the first time in a long time as the moon disappeared on the horizon,

embracing this new experience, she continued allowing the tender tugs on

her ribbons to move her freely, when she felt something, it was a hand

on hers, helping her hold the ribbons, it felt familiar, safe, comforting

When she saw his eyes, as clear as she had ever seen anything,

deep and friendly, soothing just as she had remembered…remembered?

He took her by the hands and he came even more into focus

“Hi there, I have missed you,” he sighed and she knew it was him

He was here, wherever here was, he held her in his arms now as he said,

“I promised you I would love you eternally, I have been waiting for you”

She cried again, happy tears as she whispered. “You did, you did, is this…”

“Shhh,” he placed a caring finger to her lips…

I firmly believe that one can die of a broken heart so this could represent dream or actual death. In either case, heaven is found in the one that you love; and there's nothing greater than that. The briefest moment of such love can last a lifetime. This is beautiful!

Thank you so much Linda. I appreciate your time and kind thoughts on my poetry.
Ooh! This is like the end of that movie where Bruce Willis was dead all along, or no! She was turned into a kite and he was controlling her movements!!! Or he was a puppeteer and she was a marionette? An out of body experience? A script for a movie they've just told me I'll be in if I remember my lines?... Ahh, I know... I'm still dreaming, aren't I? The alarm is going to go off and I'm going to wake up and realise I haven't done any reviews yet and I'll need to put the big coffee pot on to get through them and here was I looking for a nice easy day and... Why am I dreaming about writerscafe?
Nicely captured dream Will. Just the right amount of ethereal... Surreal... The alarm is taking ages to go off and I'm freaking out now that I'm going to be late. I hope that big coffee pot was only dreamt and not drank, or ill never sleep again! 😊

Dagnabbit! I knew Alexa would turn out to be a dude 😊
Ethereal, other worldly, the beginning anticipates the ending. This has such a final feeling to it. It is gentle and hopeful but so final. Nicely done Will

Thanks so very much my friend.
"She looked down on herself in her bed sobbing,"
I definitely feel that. Sometimes I have felt like an on-looking observer of myself both curious about what I am seeing and at the same in complete knowledge of it.
It's an interesting thing, I suppose. Probably not something that many people would understand at all.

This is beautiful, and I especially love the stanza that this line is featured in and is at the start of.

I've read this before, but reading it again, now, is a pleasant experience, and I feel like I understand it on a whole new level. This is a really wonderful and lovely write.
Glad I stopped by to read it again.

You are very welcome!
A beautiful story with that bit of magic and ending we all hope for. Is there something else on the other side? - a question we all pondered at a moment in life. This was a soulfull journey Will :)

Always a pleasure Will :)
Oh will, this is a beautiful write which gave me goosebumps. I thought of my mum and dad when reading this. Childhood sweethearts whose love never faltered. He passed 32 years ago and she found her wings last year. Made me shed a tear reading your wonderful stanzas.

Happy you found some meaning in Chris and you never know. We can only this is how it could be.
A breathtaking moment captured in it all its glory. I read rapt as love came a full circle. Not all promises are fake and made to be broken. Some do come true somewhere, some place, sometime. Just needs sincere hearts and dedicated souls. This is a special poem.
