Well, here I go again,

it’s time to put this pen to work

“Hey, can’t you see I’m sleeping?

He is always such a jerk”

 

I wonder what they’d like to read,

I usually write of love

“Ain’t that the truth, it seems to be

all he is thinking of”

 

Perhaps a poem wrapped around

a perfect morning view

“It wouldn’t be the first one

I have seen come out of you”

 

Or how her beauty touches me

and takes my breath away

“Please not again, the same old line,

find something new to say”

 

I know, I’ll write of springtime,

its arrival coming soon

“Oh geez, you wrote one yesterday,

at least it’s not the moon”

 

That's it, I'll write about the moon,

it just popped in my head

“Of course, he never gives me credit

for anything I've said”

 

A poem about flowers

in the garden would be good

“Oh great, some singing marigolds

neath an arbor where she stood”

 

How about an ocean,

as the waves crash on the shore

“You’ve written that a hundred times,

they really don’t need more”

 

A sunset found at twilight

shining brightly tangerine

“You’re gonna bore them half to death,

if you know what I mean”

 

I want to say I love her so,

in hopes that she will sigh

“Damn, you say that one more time

and I’m saying goodbye”

 

Well, maybe I’ll just wait

and write a poem later on

“I’m good with that, but promise me,

no dew drops on the lawn”

 

Here you go, back in the drawer,

until I write again

 “Finally, I’ll get some sleep,

I hate being his pen”

Most excellent!! But I wonder, are you really using a pen? Or does your pen languish in a cup on your desk replaced by keys? Then your pen's consternation is an understandable thing. I'm sure I'm not the only one who might side with your pen. You do seem to spin a web, then get caught in it!

Ok, you caught me but at least the keyboard doesn't leak in my pocket. : ) Actually though, right now I have, one blue ink pen, one black ink pen, one permanent marker and a yellow and pink highlighter laying on my desk in front of the keyboard, which I use often. I am not sure if the pens miss the poetry writing or not. They don't look sad. : )

Ha! I think this is the first Colab I've read where the pen gets some credit and I would suggest a word prompt, before others suggest an intervention. 😊
It is difficult to find a unique perspective, but not impossible.
You could write about how many gummy bears it would take to choke a kestrel, or perhaps just eat the gummy bears and ponder inspiration itself.
I'd give more advice Will, but I haven't so much as written a shopping list all week, and even if I had, I'd probably leave it on the kitchen table and only realise that when I'm in offers aisle, wasting time by trying to remember what I came in for and panicking and buying a gazebo instead... Only to find the list on my return and realising it was only bread, milk and crunchy nut cornflakes I wanted, with no hint of a gazebo on the list at all!
Anyway, I've got a gazebo to build, but before I do... What is a gazebo? 😊

I believe it is an octagon shape backyard structure perfect for eating a nice healthy breakfast of crunchy nut cornflakes. But, probably not the best place to consume gummy bears...just saying. For the reason that, it is hard as hell to say gazebo with a mouth full of gummy bears. It's not like you could swallow them quickly like a spoonful of soggy crunchy nut cornflakes. Just something to keep in mind and while we are on the subject, what exactly is a kestrel?

It is kind of hard to talk your way out of spitting gummy bears while talking, I agree. Plus they would stick to the other breakfasted and what do you do if she doesn't notice? Leave her with gummy bear hair all day?
I believe a kestrel is a really good shot in golf, which is like when you tee off and it goes straight into the second hole, like a hole in two in one.
