Just to the right of the moon

Just to the right of the moon

A Poem by willweb

Sitting out in the backyard,

far from the glow of the city

in one of two lawn chairs

positioned facing east,

I gaze upon the rising moon,

watching in silence as it climbs

above a slowly fading horizon

And I think to myself…

is it lonely, this bright shining orb

sitting there all by itself

in the vast turquoise heavens

Is it hoping for a beautiful star

to join it on a warm

springtime evening like this

When I see it appear,

the first star, a glistening gemstone,

dazzling in illumined brilliance

just to its right and I wonder

as I look to the empty chair

just to my right, is the moon perhaps

thinking the same thing about me

What a strong image and I love for nature to become an active character of the story.

Perfect night for it.
I was just outside watching Venus rise and shine in the west. I tipped my hat to the goddess of love and came in to wash the dirt off my mitts. Soon the nights will be warm enough to sit outside with my kerosene lantern and watch the bats feed around the street lamps. I don't talk to the moon much anymore. He keeps trying to pull my mistress, the ocean, away. I enjoyed the read. Great stuff, F.

Thank you again my friend for all of your support.
pretty good stuff - clever, creative, honest. as you and i mentioned before, this is one of the reasons why we appreciate nature - it seems to be ours and is faithful and always willing to lend an ear. it seems to speak to us without saying anything. i really like this one. i love nature and lately have been paying special attention to sunrises and sunsets - the colors and feelings are breathtaking. very inspiring ... :)

Thanks so much Pete. Yep, nature sure is beautiful and mystical.
Distance is precious. One's view - like one's thinking, is a seed - one that grows and grows until it sits besides a beckoning glow prepared to warms and hold. You've used such gentle, appreciative words, full of need and reflection. Beautiful.

Awww this hits one straight in the heart. You did a brilliant job with this poem, this question, my friend. Yes, indeed, what must the celestial bodies often wonder about us? This was lovely to read.

A special poem dear Willweb. You're most welcome.
"And I think to myself…

Is it hoping for a beautiful star..."
Will, I applaud your masterful scene-setting and exquisite imagery throughout this lyrical/musical poem. I love the sweet comparison and personification of the rising moon itself. The emotion expressed is so tender and authentic. The verses and flow are gracefully balanced. I can just see you sitting in that peaceful rural tranquility and fancifully pondering the heavens romantically...This is truly a lovely write.
