She had to go on

She had to go on

A Poem by willweb

~*~

The piano she sat, not sure where to start,

she longed for the melody kept in heart

Her fingers caressed every key she had found,

still nothing to hear, there was nary a sound

When then he appeared and her smile it grew,

he sat down beside her, somehow, he just knew

He touched her so softly, she felt it within,

then reached for the keyboard, about to begin

The song she now played, it just could not compare,

once locked in her heart, it was now time to share

When then she looked over to find he was gone,

but still she kept playing, she had to go on

Now tear drops were falling in lines on her face,

where once was a smile, a frown did replace

She then heard a whisper, so soft and so clear,

his voice said, “keep playing, I'll always be near”

From then on she played, as her smile returned,

for deep in the music, it seems she had learned

The song that she kept, it now had to depart,

so she could make room for this man in her heart

Your music confounds me it is so good. I live the almost jazz like rythm to this one. And of course the story is replete with smoky dark bar like attitudes.

Thanks Ken. It means a lot coming from you. I appreciate your time.
The creative process. Finding her inspiration again with unlocking of her key to grant its flow. The music ascended then descended as her muse faded and finally crescendoed with a knowing it will always be there. What a creatively written poem that played a beautiful tune.

It was a pleasure to read. :)
We all need inspiration to create. Be it a muse, an emotion, a memory, a beautiful scene womething has to serve as the fule for the fire. In this poem not only the verse but the rhyme carried me on from one line to the next. It all resolved in the final line.

The singer sing their song, the poet and writer write their words. The painter paints the world. Ugly or beautiful. They create. I loved the poetry Will.

You are welcome Will.
I feel like this was an illusion ... she may have been mind- wandering, thinking of someone she could play for and in her mind's eye there was someone sitting next to her; so overjoyed the sounds finally resounded and she took it to mean that there was someone special in her heart...then gone but lingering...
As usual your writing is excellent!

an emotionally charged love poem .. surely such love and such losses need to be written into poetry where they can reside for all of eternity and be re-visited as and when ..

Thanks so much and I agree.
Such a great poem, willweb. This easily applies to life in general and the will to go on despite the death of a loved one.

Thanks so much my friend. Life is not easy, that's for sure.
A very sentimental poem and one that touched deep chords in my heart, dear Willweb. I wish I had the kind of love that would go on encouraging me to keep playing. I guess she was blessed to have him. Everyone isn't so lucky. You really wrote this with such depth.

Indeed, it does. To have someone such is a blessing.

You're most welcome.
he's there with her, then gone ...that could mean so many things.
but whatever, she keeps room for him in her heart...a reservation, so to speak.

I hope she keeps playing.
