Today my inspiration

Today my inspiration

A Poem by willweb

A friend of mine just asked me

what inspires me to write

They’ve seen so many poems

every morning, noon and night

I answered with a chuckle

saying, “I don’t have a clue

In fact right at this moment

I’m not sure what I will do

I looked outside my window

it’s the same as yesterday

Traffic lights and restaurants

and people on their way

I listened to some music

but I’ve heard that song before

And I don’t really like it,

it’s a tough one to endure

I took a walk through nature

past the flowers and the trees

But allergies are killing me

all I could do was sneeze

I typed some words in sequence

just to see if they would rhyme

And ended up deleting them,

it seemed a waste of time”

My friend sat there and smiled

and I thought, now there’s a thing

I like when people smile

and the happiness they bring

There’s joy in that expression,

like spring will soon arrive

It lifts another’s spirits

and makes them feel alive

Thoughts of sunny mornings

begin to float around

Daffodils and meadowlarks

and dew drops on the ground

That very special person

who lives inside your heart

And just how much you love them

even when you are apart

I started feeling better

as my face now wore a grin

And when I looked up at the screen,

I saw one once again

For now I knew the answer

and I told my friend so true

“It seems today my inspiration

came from seeing you”

Dear Willweb,

A very strong reason for me loving your poetry is the child-like innocence and purity of your words. Aside from the sheer skill in your quill, the emotions are always so heartfelt and if I felt as deeply as you do, I too would be so driven to write. Readers understand, appreciate and are inspired so do keep writing always. 💜

You are most welcome.
So many sources of inspiration exist that I'm afraid I'll never understand how a writer or a poet could suffer "writer's block". It only takes observing the world around us or thinking of the future or the past or looking inside us to discover how we feel about something. But I am in agreement with Emerson when he said, "What lies before us and what lies behind us are smatter matters compared to what lies within us." The imagination resides there and as Einstein observed, "Imagination is more important than knowledge." Worlds are within us to be discovered, a secret universe of its own, waiting to be explored. Not many go into that starry chasm seeking infinity. But it is there. I enjoyed the read. A friend who inspires is a treasure indeed. F.

This is very nice. It's honest and true. The harder we struggle, the less we have to say. The moment we stop looking, inspiration comes our way. :)

Hello Linda Marie, thank you for visiting my poem. I am happy you liked it.
A lovely uplifting poem will, and long may us poets continue to inspire each other. Your stanzas flow beautifully and these lines have a real feel good factor about them. Have a great Saturday my friend.

Thanks so much Chris for your kind words
Such a wonderfully expressed piece, describes so well a poets mind. Often can't figure why I write, just something in me that needs to get out. ;-}

Myself, I need music and I must read. Make the old mind work. I believe Will. Some of us, we must write. Thank you for sharing the amazing poetry and your thoughts.

You are welcome Will. I did enjoy the poetry.
you inspire us back, will.

reading the words of others is the best way to find inspiration. unfortunately some leave here for spells and come back saying, I just had nothing to post. But if they did stick around and read and comment...inspiration would jump up and bite them.

You are right my friend and I have the scars to prove it.
Inspiration seems to grow from so much that sometimes I think that poets are more finely attuned to inspiration and can find it anywhere, be it an overheard thought, sight, taste, scent or just a random word popping into your head from what knows where. But inspiration can change our perceptions of things so much that it is like getting our own little Eureka moments to create something from nothing and pen it into existence.
Personally, I have used a goldfish bowl for years, but instead of fish, I fill it with folded post it notes with words that have captured me written on them and when I have time I go word fishing to see what comes from them.
Plus, no words get harmed and sometimes I even throw them back if nothing comes to mind 😊
