Shepherdless

Shepherdless

A Poem by willweb

A lonely horizon,

eyes caress a parched field,

dust coated worries

find fears scattered

among silhouettes

awaiting the return

No shadow of staff

following ruts,

plow marks or sparse grasses

as sighs mingle,

softly wafting towards

the opened gate

The herd anxious, but silent

sorrowed but hopeful

meander lost aimless along

pathways of desolate moments,

thirsting for news,

any sight, any word, anything

Sheperdless,

the flock waits,

the flock prays,

the flock needs you

Jacob is in my prayers too. He is one of the kindest people, I know. Wonderful words and thoughts shared for our friend.

You are welcome Will.
The Teacher lies down in Green Pastures while
Sheep follow in his footsteps... waiting and praying
for his return. The Lillies of the Valley line up...
as though the Snow bird will sing in the Ever green tree.

Sigh! I too have been waiting and praying for Jacob. This is a beautiful tribute to a much-loved poet. Thank you for putting into words what we have all been feeling.

Thank you for reading Linda.
Oh! it is for Mr. J. I was reading your poem with care and feeling since I am a spiritual person and it touched me there, and at the same time.... it reminded me with a tribute I wrote for a friend years back, then your lines came... and your note. I love your sincere feelings in this, and the style, font and design for your poem, smart use of the word "Shepardless" it is a "shepherdless" I believe?

Thank You for your nice caring gesture. Get Well soon Mr. J 🤍

You are welcome.
...just finding out now. Count me in as a Jacob booster, wishing him the very best. I haven't known Jacob a long time, but he has become one of my favorites, a straight-shooter, says what he thinks, a model for us all.
A beautiful tribute, Will :)

This poem underlines how much we look to Jacob for inspiration and how he anchors us in our poetic lives. Having known him for so long, his is a significant presence and influence in our lives though we have not ever met. I personally feel blessed to know him and I send up a prayer for his recovery each time I think of him, which is often. Very aptly and beautifully penned, Willweb.

I was wondering who was being addressed in this one until the note brought me up to snuff. Yes, Jacob has a whole crew of us in his corner this day and night. Hopefully, the most prolific writer on the site will be back spewing them out again soon. A nice, thoughtful piece, this one.
PS: Do a spell check on the title and the single word before the last stanza.
