“The city is cold and damp, but she is the fire burning in the vest pocket of my heart” - Willweb
`
The naked skyline falls into a quiet
darkness,
slick
sidewalks and flickering street lights bid farewell
as I enter
the elevator to her loft, fifth floor
My day was
long, but worth it, she makes it worth it
The hallway
is silent… I knock lightly, no answer,
letting
myself in, I see her through the open glass doors
I let her
hear my footsteps…
a slow drizzle shimmers on the big city
Her perfume tempts my senses as she
peers from the balcony’s iron rail
into the vast cavern of sleeping buildings…
like a rose petal hourglass
She feels me…closer…her black dress and red heels
against the dark backdrop of
dreary skies silhouette her beauty,
she is a poem waiting to be read,
a song you can’t get out of your head
or would want to
I place my arms about her waist,
she turns, moist ruby lips infectious,
eyes hiding her story find mine,
the rain falling like diamond tear drops
decorates her cheeks as she smiles
and my heart is flooded with light
We embrace, a deep passionate kiss,
locked in haunting silence,
speaking louder than any words,
all that was cold becomes warm
as moisture seeps, dampening my skin,
and I don’t care
She is what love is…
a hot cup of coffee on a frigid winter day,
a cool breeze in the middle of August,
a beautiful delicate flower
blooming from a crack in the asphalt
on that long, endless highway of life…and she is mine
Woo...I adore this. The essence of your poem is intoxicating Will, you really get that breezy 40's vibe, oozes sensuality and the music is perfectly suited...this cinematic scene plays out so enticingly, my favorite of yours, magnifico! You gave me the quivers...took my breath away.
This has to be one of the best romantic poems I've read in a long time...Will....my heart is melting....
she is a poem waiting to be read,
a song you can’t get out of your head....I wish I had written these lines...so beautiful.
This style suits you..so simple and yet so lovely...as if you have poured out your heart upon the page.
She is what love is…
....and she is mine.
goosebumps my friend...I have goosebumps.

Beautiful Poem. Reading this I realized one of the reasons I don't write romance. In my mind I don't put women on pedestals because don't belong there. They jump off as soon as you try. Mind you I'm not knocking your poem. Writing's a fantasy world where you can write out your feelings and desires. The thought just dawned on me is all.

I'll agree, some don't, but mine does belong on that pedastal. I fantasized about being in a Mickey Spillane novel and this is how it came out of my head and my heart. Sorry man, this one is very special to me. I get a little sappy from time to time.
For me this wonderful poem is a romantic victory, as if patience has won a longed for desire, where even the simple '.. hot cup of coffee on a frigid Winter day. ' is the winner's ultimate and glorious prize.
I couldn't help but smile your last four words..'felt like applauding!
(The music is appropriately fantastic)

Thanks so much Emma. It is so nice to see you stop by for a visit. Feel free to applaud anytime. :)
For me, this whole poem revolves around these two lines: "she is a poem waiting to be read," and "She is what love is…" The music sets the scene so perfectly and the words bring it alive.
Great imagery: "the rain falling like diamond tear drops"

I always love your poetry. And, some of your lines are so timeless as to be all but iconic.
Now this is some steamy and classy writing Will, just what is needed on these cold nights. Gotta love a woman in red heels ;p
That video - the guys solo blows the mind. He like a snake charmer ... wow
pull down that "R.I.P" sign - Lazarus walks among us lol
I think someone just turned the heat up!
It's kind of hot in here.
With that music it does kind of have that Dick Tracy feel that Benita mentioned.
Very nice Will. Loved it.
