“The city is cold and damp, but she is the fire burning in the vest pocket of my heart” - Willweb
`
The naked skyline falls into a quiet
darkness,
slick
sidewalks and flickering street lights bid farewell
as I enter
the elevator to her loft, fifth floor
My day was
long, but worth it, she makes it worth it
The hallway
is silent… I knock lightly, no answer,
letting
myself in, I see her through the open glass doors
I let her
hear my footsteps…
a slow drizzle shimmers on the big city
Her perfume tempts my senses as she
peers from the balcony’s iron rail
into the vast cavern of sleeping buildings…
like a rose petal hourglass
She feels me…closer…her black dress and red heels
against the dark backdrop of
dreary skies silhouette her beauty,
she is a poem waiting to be read,
a song you can’t get out of your head
or would want to
I place my arms about her waist,
she turns, moist ruby lips infectious,
eyes hiding her story find mine,
the rain falling like diamond tear drops
decorates her cheeks as she smiles
and my heart is flooded with light
We embrace, a deep passionate kiss,
locked in haunting silence,
speaking louder than any words,
all that was cold becomes warm
as moisture seeps, dampening my skin,
and I don’t care
She is what love is…
a hot cup of coffee on a frigid winter day,
a cool breeze in the middle of August,
a beautiful delicate flower
blooming from a crack in the asphalt
on that long, endless highway of life…and she is mine
Woo...I adore this. The essence of your poem is intoxicating Will, you really get that breezy 40's vibe, oozes sensuality and the music is perfectly suited...this cinematic scene plays out so enticingly, my favorite of yours, magnifico! You gave me the quivers...took my breath away.
I love this, Will. It oozes of a Hollywood Noir, the black and white classics that made the forties the vintage years we now look back on. It made lighting a cigarette an art, and with lips like Laureen Bacall's, how could Bogie resist? You really nailed the ambience, Will. I felt like a voyeur the whole time I was reading, and every line pulled me in a little more than the one before. Wow, you really slipped us a "Mickey"!

But, I was hoping you would say, "I liked that, I'd like more". : ) Thanks so much Kelly. I had a blast writing this one and I really am happy you could feel this one.
Ah, the music is perfect for this very romantic piece; I could see them dancing in the big city in a small club in midtown... but I feel like I'm watching them on the balcony with your arms embracing her, then a passionate kiss... and whatever comes next doesn't matter because your vivid images explain everything.... this is beautiful....

An older poem out for an airing. What a piece of treasure this is. Pleased I had the opportunity to read your stanzas will. Top notch writing. Filled with sensuality, longing and beautiful imagery. Love your summing up in the final stanza. Bravo.

Really love this and the beautiful imagery you've brought to life. At first, I felt as though I were witnessing a scene I shouldn't be. But then as I kept reading, the imagery became more vivid, I could see those red lips and feel the rain, and finally the last paragraph, those are such grand comparisons. It flows like silken bedsheets sliding off a bed. Surely a favorite.

Will, The thread of wonderful imagery running through the poem's entirety carries this along like a boat on a calmly flowing river. Mickey Spillane would have loved this write, you've done him proud. Great write, Will. take care...dan
