Christmas is ruined

There wasn't a kiss
no it just couldn't be
My Christmas is ruined
look under that tree

Ties and pajamas
sweaters and things
But not that one gift
that I asked him to bring

He's just some old guy
with a beard and a hat
About five foot five
all chubby and fat

Who likes eating cookies
while I am asleep
Dreaming of kisses
so sound and so deep

He's not even real
I now know it's true
Because I was good
and that just wouldn't do

So I sit alone
now wondering why
So many are happy
when I only cry

I guess it won't happen
you'll see it so clear
There'll be no more poems
of holiday cheer

I'll just go on being
that guy with a wish
A poet named Will
just wanting a kiss

Sitting here lonely,
counting each tear
Hoping for that kiss
in the coming New Year

So please don't be sorry
but I have to go
I hear there's a sale
on fresh mistletoe

whimsical is definitely the word .. strong rhymes and rhythms .. fun to read .. sort of sad in a child like way .. Many of us are alone at Christmas Will. I went and spent Christmas day with a group of folks in the same position and it was the most relaxed and enjoyable Christmas for many years. Lots of kisses but kisses of respect which were just as satisfying. This is a good piece as it appears th have a sad melody until the final line which unexpectidly injects a lovely humour.
