Due west

Due west

A Poem by willweb

Due West ~

Shadows preach unending nightmares,

Bent fingers probe the minds of the innocent

Scratching beneath surface rust, corroded meanings

Torches burn long faded eyes staring

Into an inferno of expected fears

As I crawl, slowly, silently

Along a night shrouded path

of sharp pebble and dried blood

caked existences snuffed out

ash and dew mix, a’stew in deep dish demons

My silhouette, outlined grey thread weavings

Trap the fumes and stench

Of last night’s vanity in pockets

filled with good versus evil

and tiny lint fragments of hope

The horned one, a’ painted in crimson glare

Standing tall, this breathless beast

jagged teeth, rotted flesh clings

like goat cloth on twisted branch,

thorns gouge, children weep endless

I raise my bow, shoring my aim

Straight this arrow of my lone chance

To quell this deadly dreamscape,

Slay the evil that forces men to their knees,

Women to pieces of discarded disgrace

With closed eye, I find the heart,

If blackened charred remains can be a heart

My hand trembles slight, release, flight ~ hit

The creature wails an unholy noise, echoing despair

Through countryside canyons ablaze, collected back to hell

And clouds part, azure skies appear

Grimaced faces re-gather smiles

Warmed by sun beams dancing on daisy fields once more

Stealthily I take my leave, due west

My task hath only just begun~

I know, a bit different...I have been inspired by the creepy halloweenish poetry I have read on here as of late.

the whole poem is wonderful but for some reason - that above stuck with me.

makes me wonder just what the heck your task is and where ya going... I found myself engrossed within this dark, twisted suspenseful tale with evil beings and unlikely heroes.. the imagery alone is vivid and powerful.. then you add the intensity of me hanging on the emotion and each word to see what would happen next.. that was so skillfully done.. the phrasing, the metaphors, you even threw in alliteration!.. It was a devilish roller coaster just in time for Halloween.. I thoroughly enjoyed this!!

Thanks so much for this wonderful and humbling review April. I am happy you liked this dark one.
You sound like one bad a*s shadow hunter. Loved it from beginning to end. I too loved the tiny lint fragments of hope...what a great image and line.

Thanks so very much Icelandicblue. I was inspired by reading your Witches poem.
I really love this one!
"Warmed by sun beams dancing on daisy fields once more"--amazing outlook on the future.

"filled with good versus evil

and tiny lint fragments of hope"--great line making me think of how hope can keep a person going through the roughest patches of life!

Even if it is a glimmer.....thanks!
"Torches burn long faded eyes staring
Into an inferno of expected fears" I feel this explain perfectly that "look" which unfortunately I see in some people's eyes.

Good job here.

Clap … clap … Halloween is here and you do it well. WW.

Thank you so very much Pryde. I am thrilled you enjoyed this little step out of my normal realm toda.. read more
i read this as an interpretation of current events .. slaying demons in the east he now heads west .. as we all certainly have them .. some more so than others .. these lines i think are expressly powerful:
"caked existences snuffed out
ash and dew mix, a’stew in deep dish demons"

so glad you ended with victory .. (with caveat to the west of course)

Thanks so much KLGoode. Just thought I'd step outside of the box.
Your poetry has such tension, a wave of unease through this, superb, my thoughts shall linger :)
