Liars

Liars

A Poem by willweb

What happened to that day

back when I was young

When I was told I could grow up to be

anything that I wanted to be

“Just set your sights young man”, they said

“Follow your heart,

give it your all,

reach for the stars and bask in the glow”

Well here I am, grown up (in years),

facing another locked door

A crumbled application

stuffed in my back pocket

and where are they now,

dead and gone, not around

to tell me what went wrong

All I wanted to be was yours

Liars

Thank you so much Scribbler for this wonderful review. I am thrilled you enjoyed this one.
What about the notion that, it was true, they didn't lie..
But remember that rule, falls on everyone and so..... each person gets a view of the makings of all of our wishes into one and this is the results......Perhaps what you wanted , so did many others/ Therefore you all have a piece. :-)

Thank you so very much Poppy. I am thrilled you stopped by today.
Sadly, I wish I didn't relate this poem, but I do, on a personal and emotional level. Sometimes, hearing the truth, even when we don't want it, is less painful than the white lies, told to us. Thank you, for sharing this poem, with us.

Ouch. The hurt and disillusionment of growing up. Not fun. Well said, even if it's a well, now I'll just go find the razors and run the tub kind of moment.

Of course I would never, but that is definitely the feel of this poem. Very dark.
This is intense but, Will, I can relate to this. You write so well and I can relate. I have missed reading you!

Thank you so very much Noodlehead. I am thrilled you liked this one today (or yesterday) :)
wow i love this one...reminds me of some lines in john mellencamp's "pink houses"

"when i was younger, they said boy you're gonna be president, but just like everything else those old crazy dreams, just kind a came and went"

can't believe "they"!

Intensely emotional write. The disappointment is palpable. Yes, when we are young, we are filled with hope for the future. We are told there are no obstacles. Perhaps that is said by people who mean well and want the best for us, but alas, it is not the truth. We can not be whomever we choose and we can not have everything we want. Learning that lesson is a bitter pill to swallow. Hearts are broken and often the reason is not possible to determine. Powerful poetry here, Will. Lydi**
