Butterflies ~ You

 

Butterflies, those magical little creatures,

abstract painted wings in hypnotic designs,

like Dali and Monet collaborated

with gratis paint and unhinged brush strokes

Combining beauty with misunderstood nonsense,

melted watch towers on flowing bridges

above lily pad sentinels with twisted faces

 

One palette, two brushes, an endless sky

filled with a multitude of rainbows - of colors

on an easel of fragmented vines

and soft flowing orchid leaves,

winding their way into the vaulted plain

of our visionary quests, soothing every need

as they fly from flower to flower

 

It is at this point I realize that -

if this is the case, then

my body must be a gallery

of the finest work ever known,

for each time my eyes find your smile,

your beauty gazing upon me,

these wonderful winged creatures of nature

invade me, every part of me and I experience the most

wonderful fluttering sensation - you

I have a dear friend that compares me to Dali all the time, so that bit brought a smile to my face...consequently I often equate butterflies to that same friend, so there were personal connections here that brought this piece to life for me, but that would have happened anyway...you wield a most firm command over your subject matter, and there never seems to be any ambivalence in knowing exactly what you want to say, and the emotions you set out to convey...you truly get better with every poem my friend...awesome work.
