Some things never change

Some things never change

A Poem by willweb

I was walking down a street

in my past, hating my bright future,

thinking about you

(How many years ago was it,

20, 25, when you said

you’d never speak to me again)

Not much traffic in these days,

the crossing guards

were not busy at all

Saw a kid with a transistor radio

playing the new Beatle’s single,

that was our song

Stopped at a payphone,

checked the coin return and found a quarter -

maybe my luck was changing

Placed it in the larger

round opening at the top

and dialed you a text message

But got an operator instead -

and in that snooty tone

I had all but forgotten, cackled,

“She still doesn’t want to talk to you”

Some things never change

Turn back the second hand and take a look at the smells in the room. I am fairly certain i have spoken with this operator on a few occasions

you should never leave out the diner!
Nostalgia brought to life...love the snooty operator, can't even talk to one of those these days.

'dialed you a text message'...phone booths are pretty much obsolete too

Thank you so much Frieda P. Not too many around, maybe in an antique store.
I love the imagery in this piece especially the quarter for the text message

Thanks so much KLGoode. This was not easy to write.
oh i miss all the things you mention in this poem...grew up with them...and was in grade school when the Beatles came out...

had a few "our songs" back then---

i love the nostalgia of this...

but you are right, even if we could go back...some things never do change.
