Goodbye Saturday Night

Goodbye Saturday Night

A Poem by willweb

Drunk on a Saturday night -
Tequila and cheesecake,
no candles to blow out
salted thoughts after another shot
singing in my recliner - out of tune

Infomercials keep me company, sort of
the half empty bottle
speaking to me in spanish
It keeps saying "drink me "
and I don't understand, but I do

That damn clock keeps staring
moving, crying teared minutes
from crossed arms and I pour seconds
once again-seeing the light,
ticking me off

The sun rises, ending my night
bringing a morning I hoped not to know,
why am I still here,
drunk again, alone again,
still saying again

Changing channels, stopping on Biography
John Belushi - funny guy - no fries, cheeps -
I wonder if he's lonely-like me

I think I'll go say hi

This made me giggle and was so witty. I love your sense of humour Will, you have a crackin' sense of humour, you're hilariously funny. I loved it.

Thank you so much from one Will to another.
Hahaha, funny, extremely witty and set with tones of sadness--a recipe to devour.
My favourite lines would be:
"Infomercials keep me company, sort of
the half empty bottle
speaking to me in spanish "

tequila and cheesecake...
now, there's a combination I've never tried!

I hope you'll reconsider, and stay. I think we all could use a break from this place from time to time, but you are indeed, quite a talent!

My best,
Kelly

I popped on here to read and relax, overdosed on mindless gush that made me feel absolutely nothing, but platitudes flow like rivers, and started thinking I need to close my account as I am so f**king bored and then I found this. Beautifully written, has depth and is something the reader can actually understand and relate to. Isn't that what poetry is about? Thank you, willweb, for sharing your talent here. Penny

There's a part of me that is worried about you after reading that last line, Will. You portray that feeling of loneliness so clearly, putting the reader in your place and state of mind. Personally, I'm a Monday kind of person...

You certainly epitomized a lonely Saturday night, the saddest part is that you eat cheesecake with tequila. ;)

I was out of cherries. Thank you so very much Frieda P. for this nice review of my poem.
I always feel your work deep down will...I'm not sure if you saw my last poem...you don't have to look at it, I'll just tell you it's called 'Death To The Weekend'...I think we have similar feelings on that particular time of the week...it's considered the most fun and awaited time of the week to so many people, but they depress the hell out of me...I loved the 'clock' stanza, that sums it all up so well, especially the last line, which is wittily bittersweet...as always, you just seem to write things that I relate to effortlessly...fine work my friend.

Ouch, the end is harsh indeed. I wasn't expecting that. Very dramatic, and I hope it is not reflective of the poet's frame of mind, but just his character in the poem.
