Outside the lines

Outside the lines

A Poem by willweb

What is it about poetry

that so consumes you

Brings you to your knees,

cowering in a corner

of your own delusions

Reading in between the lines,

finding what is not really there

Dropping hints of absurd defiance,

collecting spoonful after spoonful

of puzzled meanings and chaliced dreams

Flowing symbolisms, metaphoric landscapes -

Where bushes are bluebirds

and sidewalks - bridges of no return

Why do you reach

into your pocket, searching for love

on white paper folded into a square,

when all along it faces you -

not in ink, but in smiles

expressing exactly what is felt

No boundaries or disguised emotions

penned in rhythmic sequence,

only true love, standing on this sidewalk -

which is only a sidewalk

What is it about poetry

that so consumes you,

when love is waiting - just outside the lines

Poetry is forever. Love fades.

I'm not sure why I thought of that, but I feel that many of us, after having our hearts broken at least once, feel that way. There is a poem for every thought, every feeling, every hurt, and every love. But love never seems to really stick around. Whether it is the fact that we move on from someone or death knocks at the door.

This write of yours is simply breathtaking. I found myself lost in it, wondering what might lay outside that I'm not reaching for. You did an excellent job with this! Going into my favs. xo :)

Well said, poetry does all these different things to us human beings, the true essense of it, shall be spelled in words, by every poet, every thought will dance, until it lands on a sheet of paper, in the perfect shape. Clever, "when love is waiting - just outside the lines". You always provoke the readers mind, and it shall be interpret on the thought gateways of each and every reader or writer differently. That's the beauty of it all... it's all beauty, even when felt through the deepest pain. Excellent work.

The pleasure is all mine!! :)
Because poetry is forever trying to reach that infamous "outside the lines" that we so seldom feel but keenly remember.
I agree with the other postings maybe we are kinda afraid of "true love" without bounds.

Excellent and enjoyable write.

Thank you so very much Frontier. We all take it differently, in ways only we know.
I agree with Frieda and think this is one of the best I have read from your electronic quill :) I do firmly believe that poetry is the new philosophy and that's why I enjoy it so much. Love is so overrated with a feeling that changes as it evolves until it flatlines into domestic shackles and numbness. I pick poetry any time, but each to their own :) I truly enjoyed this Willweb. Awh you are sweet Will this is a poet's delight. My pleasure.
We know that stepping outside the box has only left us hurt I guess.
So why step out again.?
Perhaps the speaker must step into the box with their love in order to draw her out?

Did I say box? I meant lines. :)
i don't think we trust what is outside the lines...i don't think we feel safe with what seem so real...

we escape into words, because then we can twist life into syllables that make up the existence we expect we own.

I think you are right, Jacob. Thank you so much.
Dropping hints of absurd defiance,
collecting spoonful after spoonful
of puzzled meanings and chaliced dreams

One of your finest, I do believe.

Thank you so much Pryde. I am happy you liked this one.
I should probably start by saying that this deserves a much more in-depth review than I can offer today...it's really hot here and my concentration/ reviewing skills are not the best today...but I couldn't hold off on this one...this is an incredible ode to poetry, presented eloquently and full of unique and colourful observations...you've expressed and presented your ideas it in ways I would never have thought of...definitely one for my library...great work will.
