Answered thoughtsA Poem by willwebThe aged branches
of a maple stretch across the brick walk, hand placed
blocks in a herringbone pattern of worn
colors and chipped corners still
winding its way, after all of these years - standing
the test of time. Often we
would walk on warm summer nights, counting fireflies
and tossing pine cones trying to
knock another from the tree You would
take my hand and I would think to myself what would my
life be without you Now as I stroll on this same brick path, where fireflies
are just an annoyance and pine
cones nothing more than something dead scattered in my
way, I realize - I never wanted to know the answer to that thought at all
