Bad News

Bad News

A Poem by willweb

I stand at the window waiting,

slightly parted curtains

Watching the day go by

in the slowest possible way

Leaning against the glass,

breathing heart shaped fog

on the center pane -

reflecting my thoughts

The neighbors are watering their lawn

Oh great, they see me

Hi, Charlie, hey Susie

nice lawn - they can’t hear me

You should be home by now,

pulling into the driveway

Waving at me in rhythm

with the signal lamp flashing

I can’t wait to see your smile

through the smeared windshield

I can feel my heart beating

right now - faster

Where are you, it’s late

Wish you would hurry,

I have some bad news,

you’re not going to be happy

I broke the urn today

that held your ashes

and I can’t seem to

bring myself to clean it up

All over your favorite carpet,

I know you are going to be upset

but you will understand,

you always understand

Another day and you

didn’t make it home again

I wish you’d come home

I’ll be back at this window tomorrow -

I love you

Will, how is it that you are able to make your readers feel the pain in your poem...I love how you have portrayed this emotion here...this is really good. Keep writing my friend, you are highly talented.

oh my god this poem really pulled my heart strings, man I'm so sad now :(
I think that's a good thing though, the characters pain leaked through the letters.
Gladly, I can't relate to this, but I find this poem absolutely beautiful

Thank you so very much Noodlehead for your kind comments this morning. Don't cry - please?
After my sweetheart passed away, I would see something on the news, or something would happen at work, and I couldn't wait to tell him...and then I would remember....Your poem reminded me of the pain that takes the place of the the empty spaces in your heart when you lose someone...
Truly a touching piece of work my friend. I felt every single word.
