Just a shell

Just a shell

A Poem by willweb

I walk along this quiet beach collecting sea shells -

it was something you loved to do

We would spend hours strolling the soft sand,

searching for nature’s pristine treasures

That look on your face when you found the perfect one,

your smile, wide beautiful eyes when showing it to me

You always said you could hear my heart beat

when you held it to your ear

Still I walk along this quiet beach collecting sea shells,

though all that I find now are broken -

as is my heart, which you no longer want to hear

As always Will your words always touch me,Losing someone does not mean you stop missing or loving them.

You are welcome Will :)
I agree with Rita! Great scenery. It's hard to do things you used to do with a lover and not think about them
it's "just a shell" to everyone else, but much more to someone who gave it meaning.

Thanks so much Ally. Your nice words are my gift today.
It really is the simple things that can make or break us. You show the scene perfectly, and the emotion comes through. Excellent, Will.

I tried to click on a couple while they were still in progress, thanks for sending. A very sad piece, with lovely images.

Oh Will, this is so beautiful and yet, towards the end begins to get so very sad. You touched my heart with this one. The ending just broke my heart, we need to find someone who is going to fix your heart up and put a smile back on your face. :))

Either that or an unbroken seashell. :) Thank you so very much Kayleigh for your kind words today... read more
"Still I walk along this quiet beach collecting sea shells,
though all that I find now are broken -
as is my heart, which you no longer want to hear"- I'm reminded of the way people put conch shells to their ear to try and hear the ocean.

The beauty of this poem is in its plaintive simplicity. Something in your tone reminds me of Poe's poem Annabel Lee; it also speaks of losing a love in a kingdom by the sea. It's one of my favorites, and yours is one of my new favorites.

Thanks Ance. Not as beautiful and uplifting as your beach poem, but sometimes it is just beach.
