Black Cherry Red

Black Cherry Red

A Poem by willweb

The shadows call,

chanting from the darkness

It is my name I hear

hypnotizing my mind,

caught between love and fear

Beckoning me to come

follow them on their journey

Weakness claims my vision,

breaths collected for safe keeping,

stone fed paths wander

somewhere far beyond the horizon

(where we once sat

counting moonbeams

until the sunrise crested

and you were gone,

tossing rose petals

with another

deep into passion’s fire)

Searing my heart,

lost in flames burning inside,

melting all sense of being

Dripping onto sidewalks of despair,

coating the future, my future

in fate’s coloring,

black cherry red

Seeping between the cracks,

flowing deep in endless gutters,

painting puddles of the past,

memories that hurt

with the pain of vacant longings

Broken into pieces

of wind scattered hope

I follow  -

not knowing where they lead,

not caring anymore

The title, the poem and the sentiments are all powerful and mesmerizing. I felt the vacant longing in those words...Thank you for sharing...:)....................

You are welcome....:):............
This just reads like a song, Will, stunning, I loved the italic part, in the middle, it gave me chillbumps, because I could hear it whispering there... brilliant. You are having a beautiful dark mind my friend, at times, it's a pleasure to read. So well expressed. "Broken into pieces of wind scattered hope I follow - truly haunting.

It's beautifully written...and my pleasure to read. :)
Ooooh, your title dragged me in "Black Cherry Red" Why did I come up with that? My favourite verse was the one in italics. I am not sure if you can quote but I have seen a number of people do this so I shall.

Will--You have painted a picture of a soul in such persistent despair. The first and third stanzas speak to me in a monotone that implies endless days of pain stretching way into the past and far into the future. The second stanza: exegesis. The final stanza offers up just the tiniest ray of light reflected from the "broken into pieces of wind scattered hope," and somehow, as we all must, you follow--not caring--but plodding on toward a future that may be, if not light, at least less dark. This is an excellent bit or writing! The images, from "breaths collected for safe keeping" to "painting puddles of the past," are beautiful and haunting. I'm glad that you featured this one. Well done!
