Return to Sender

Return to Sender

A Poem by willweb

Wrapped in plain brown paper

in a cardboard box

mailed postage due to someone who cared

A slight shake,

hearing the sound of rattling pieces

mixed in with tears, pain and sorrow

My hands found you,

broken and shattered

in the bin marked outgoing

Gently I opened you,

held you against my heart,

mending you the best that I could

But your happiness was elsewhere

in a worried smile addressed to another,

regardless of the fear

I repackaged you

and wrote “Return to Sender”,

then softly stamped, Fragile, Handle with Care”

Praying he will see
